Surface preparation is as for most water based
paints.
Thoroughly wash and clean the surface, ensure oil,
grease, dirt and loose material removed.
Smooth shiny surfaces may need pre-sanding to ensure maximum mechanical
keying. Normally no priming required with Mitico BCoat paint.
For problem roofs use Mitico BaseCoat as the priming system.
Carry out any concrete repointing that may be required,
recommend use Mitico Mortar Plus.
Any areas of corrosion or rust should be treated with a rust converter
before applying BCoat paint.
Recommend then pre-priming the treated area with Mitico Galv-Iron
Primer.
Patch repair with Mitico WRM-50 Water Proof Membrane damaged areas or
complex roofing structure components suffering water leakage problems.
Mitico BCoat will bridge hair line cracks, BUT recommend WRM-50 for
larger gaps.
For gaps larger than 0.5 cm include a supporting backing mesh, for
example nylon, glass fibre. Bed mesh into wet WRM-50 film.
When dry apply 2nd coat WRM-50 at right angle to the first.
When dry then spot ‘paint’ area with BCoat Paint.
Recommend that friable surfaces or
substrates exhibiting high water suction (for example concrete, stone
chip roofs)
should be pre-sealed with Mitico PrimeTech
before applying BCoat Paint).
This both aids adhesion and reduces the amount of BCoat paint required.
On "difficult“, unknown substrates check adhesion by test ‘painting’
small area, in unobtrusive area, ensure
BCoat fully dried for 24 hours before checking adhesion of test sample
with self adhesive tape.
With thumb press tape on to painted test area then sharply pull Tape
off. OK if no
BCoat paint removed.
If applying to a roof where rain water is collected,
disconnect all down pipes
before applying the BCOAT Paint and leave disconnected until after two
‘rains’.
DO NOT apply PAINT below 10°C, or if the
temperature will drop below 10°C
within 6 hours of painting or drying is complete.
Do not apply outside
if there is a chance of rain within first 24 hours of application.
A ‘Winterised’ BCoat is available to experienced users
(fast drying),
allowing extension of the ‘painting’ season.
Apply BCoat using brush, roller, airless or air
assisted spray.
For airless spray tip size 18 to 20 thou.
To ensure a water tight seal on long run and
corrugated iron ‘spot’
apply a heavy coat initially to all the joins,
ridge cap and valley areas
paying particular attention to known problem
areas of leakage.
Then apply the normally two paint coats over the whole roof.
Recommend two coats of Mitico BCoat, allowing 12 hours drying between
each coat.
During cold and wet or high humidity periods,
additional drying may be
needed between each coat.
Air movement assists Mitico BCoat drying.
Allow time for normal full through dry to occur before re-painting.
Product must dry before it will develop its weather and water resistance
properties.
Wipe up any spills immediately with dry cloth.
Tools
should be cleaned in water before
product dries.
Do not allow wash water run off to
enter a storm water drain.
